Fuel Tank (G2501608): Removal

WARNING:
  • Wait for a minimum of 1 minute after the engine has stopped before carrying out any repair to the fuel injection system.
  • Place the vehicle in a well ventilated, quarantined area and arrange ' No Smoking/Petrol Fumes' signs about the vehicle.
  • Avoid flames, sparks or lighted substances.
CAUTION: Before disconnecting or removing components, make sure the area around the joint faces and connections are clean. Plug open connections to prevent contamination.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. Before working on the fuel system make sure to read the fuel system health and safety information.

    Refer to: PETROL AND PETROL-ETHANOL FUEL SYSTEMS HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

  2. Release the fuel pressure.

    Refer to: FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE

  3. Disconnect the 12 V system.

    Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT

  4. Drain the fuel tank.

    Refer to: FUEL TANK DRAINING - INGENIUM I4 2.0L DIESEL AJ21/INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL/TDV6 3.0L DIESEL/V6 S/C 3.0L PETROL

  5. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: LIFTING

  6. Remove the rear driveshaft.

    Refer to: REAR DRIVESHAFT - INGENIUM I4 2.0L DIESEL AJ21/INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL/INGENIUM I6 3.0L DIESEL/INGENIUM I6 3.0L PETROL

    • Remove the 2 nuts.
    • Remove the 2 aero shields.

    • Remove the fuel tank heatshield nut.
    • Remove the 4 fuel tank heatshield fasteners.
    • Remove the fuel tank heatshield.
  9. CAUTION:
    • Make sure that all openings are sealed. Use new blanking caps.
    • Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.

    Disconnect the fuel line.

  10. CAUTION: Make sure that all openings are sealed. Use new blanking caps.
    NOTE: If equipped.

    Disconnect the 2 Fuel Fired Booster Heater (FFBH) pump lines.

  11. CAUTION:
    • Make sure that all openings are sealed. Use new blanking caps.
    • Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.

    • Release the hose clamp.
    • Disconnect the fuel filler pipe from the fuel tank.
  12. CAUTION: Make sure that all openings are sealed. Use new blanking caps.

    • Remove the 4 bolts.
    • Remove the 2 brackets.
    • Disconnect the breather hose from the fuel tank.
    • Use the transmission jack to remove the fuel tank.

      General Equipment: Transmission jack 

  13. NOTE: Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

    • Release the fuel supply line from the 4 clips.
    • Remove the fuel line.
  14. NOTE: If equipped.

    • Release the 4 clips.
    • Remove the FFBH  fuel pump inlet line.
  15. NOTE: If equipped.

    • Release the FFBH  fuel pump outlet line from the 3 clips.
    • Remove the FFBH  fuel pump outlet line.
