Cooling Module (G2497452): Removal

WARNING:
Make sure the engine cooling system is cool prior to doing this procedure.
CAUTION:
- Engine coolant will damage the paint finished surfaces. If spilled, immediately remove the coolant and clean the area with water.
- The desiccant bag need only be changed under the following circumstances: There is dirt in the refrigerant circuit (For example: compressor seizure), the system is leaking and refrigerant has been lost to atmosphere, or the refrigerant circuit has been open more than 24 hours, due to repair.
- Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2-post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING .
- Disconnect the 12V system.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
- Partially drain the engine cooling system.
Refer to: COOLING SYSTEM PARTIAL DRAINING AND VACUUM FILLING (G2497432) .
- Remove the engine undershield.
- Remove the engine cover.
Refer to: ENGINE COVER - INGENIUM I6 3.0L DIESEL .
- Evacuate the Air Conditioning (A/C) system.
Refer to: AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM RECOVERY, EVACUATION AND CHARGING .
- With assistance, remove the front bumper.
Refer to: FRONT ARMATURE - INGENIUM I6 3.0L DIESEL/INGENIUM I6 3.0L PETROL .
- Release the 2 dirty air ducts at the 6 clips.
- Remove the 4 fasteners.
- Remove the air deflector.
- Release the 7 clips.
- Remove the 2 dirty air ducts.

CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the component.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Release the wiring harness clip.
- Disconnect the 3 coolant pipe connectors.
- Release the 4 pipe clips.
- Remove the breather pipe.
- Disconnect the 4 electrical connectors.
- Release the 4 wiring harness clips.
- Disconnect the coolant hose connector.
- Release the 7 coolant hose clips.

NOTE: Vehicles with right auxiliary radiator.
Release the 3 coolant hose clips.

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.
Disconnect the 2 coolant hose connectors.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Release the electrical connector clip.
- Release the 3 wiring harness clips.
- Remove the 3 screws and 2 clips.
- Remove the upper active grille air shutter.

NOTE: Take extra care when releasing the clips.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the 5 screws.
- Release the 2 clips.
- Remove the lower active grille air shutter as illustrated.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the air deflector.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the cooling module protector.
- Remove the bolt.
- Release the coolant hose from the charge air radiator.
- Disconnect the coolant hose connector from the charge air radiator coolant pump.
- Remove the coolant hose.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Remove the bolt.
- Release the coolant pipe from the charge air radiator.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the nut.
- Release the 2 A/C pipes from the A/C condenser.
- Remove and discard the 4 O-ring seals.
Release the 2 wiring harness clips.

CAUTION: Make sure that the cooling module is properly supported before removing the bolts.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the 2 cooling module lower mounting brackets.
With assistance, remove the cooling module.
