Brake Pads - V8 S/C 5.0L Petrol (G2264159): Removal

WARNING: Brake pads must be renewed in axle sets only. Failure to follow this instruction may result in braking efficiency being impaired.
CAUTION:
  • Use only new brake fluid of the correct specification from airtight containers.
  • Do not mix brands of brake fluid as they may not be compatible.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  • This procedure contains illustrations for right side components, left side components are similar.
  • If new brake pads are installed, the brake pad wear sensor must be replaced.
  1. If this component is being renewed because of a customer complaint, make sure to follow the brake system Diagnosis and Testing procedure.

    Refer to: BRAKE SYSTEM

  2. Connect the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment and set the Electric Park Brake (EPB) to the maintenance position.

    General Equipment: Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment 

  3. NOTE: This step is only required if the diagnostic equipment is not available.

    Set the EPB to the maintenance position.

    Refer to: ELECTRIC PARK BRAKE SERVICE MODE ACTIVATION AND DEACTIVATION

  4. NOTE: This step is only required if the startup battery has no power.

    Release the EPB.

    Refer to: ELECTRIC PARK BRAKE RELEASE WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS NO ELECTRICAL ROWER (G1822068)

  5. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: LIFTING

  6. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.

    Remove the anti-rattle spring.

  8. NOTE: The brake pad wear sensor is installed on the right side only.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector from the EPB actuator.
    • Release the brake pad wear sensor.
    • Release the 2 grommets.
  9. CAUTION: Make sure that the brake hose does not support the full weight of the brake caliper assembly.

    • Remove the 2 dust caps.
    • Remove the 2 slide pins from the brake caliper.
    • Remove the brake caliper and use a suitable cable tie to support the brake caliper.
  10. CAUTION: Note the correct orientation of the brake pads.

    Remove the 2 brake pads.

  11. NOTE: Only do this step if new brake pads are to be installed.

    • Release the 3 grommets.
    • Release the wiring harness from the 3 clips.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Remove and discard the brake pad wear sensor.
