Brake Pads - V8 S/C 5.0L Petrol (G2264156): Removal

WARNING:
  • Do not allow dirt or foreign liquids to enter the brake fluid reservoir. Use only new brake fluid of the correct specification from airtight containers. Do not mix brands of brake fluid as they may not be compatible.
  • Brake pads must be renewed in axle sets only. Failure to follow this instruction may result in braking efficiency being impaired.
  • Do not use compressed air to clean brake components. Dust from friction materials can be harmful if inhaled.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  • This procedure contains illustrations for left side components, right side components are similar.
  • If new brake pads are installed, the brake pad wear sensor must be replaced.
  1. If this component is being renewed because of a customer complaint, make sure to follow the brake system Diagnosis and Testing procedure.

    Refer to: BRAKE SYSTEM .

  2. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: LIFTING .

  3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.

    Refer to: WHEEL AND TIRE - V8 S/C 5.0L PETROL .

  4. NOTE: The brake pad wear sensor installed on the left side only.

    • Release the brake pad wear sensor.
    • Release the 2 grommets.
  5. NOTE:
    • Left side only.
    • Only do the following step(s) if a new component is to be installed.

    Remove the front wheel arch liner.

    Refer to: FRONT WHEEL ARCH LINER - V8 S/C 5.0L PETROL (G2263309)

    • Release the 4 grommets.
    • Release the harness clip.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Remove and discard the brake pad wear sensor.

    Remove the 2 retaining pins.

  8. CAUTION: Make sure that the brake hose does not support the full weight of the brake caliper assembly.

    • Remove and discard the 2 bolts.
    • Use a suitable cable tie to support the brake caliper.

    Remove the brake pads.

  10. CAUTION: Inspect the component, replace if damaged.

    Inspect the brake caliper anti-rattle spring for damage.

  11. CAUTION:
    • Only do the following step(s) if the brake caliper anti-rattle spring is damaged.
    • Use a suitable tool to remove the component.

    Remove the brake caliper anti-rattle spring.
