Vehicle Dynamic Suspension (G2181021): Overview
An enhanced version of the continuously variable damping system, known as Adaptive Damping (AD) is available on some models.
AD is an electronically controlled suspension system that continuously adjusts the damping characteristics of the suspension shock absorbers in reaction to the existing driving conditions.
AD is available as an option on the following powertrains:
- 180PS Diesel All Wheel Drive (AWD) Auto
- 240PS Diesel AWD Auto
- 249PS Petrol AWD Auto
- 300PS Petrol AWD Auto
AD senses the road surface and the driving style in real time.
The system uses that data to deliver exactly the response required which means that the car is constantly in touch with both the road and the driver. This provides a driving experience that is more dynamic, more controlled and above all more enjoyable.
The system senses the road 500 times a second and adjusts the dampers 100 times per second. By adjusting to road and driving conditions continuously it provides the ultimate performance in comfort and handling.
The system is controlled by the Chassis Control Module (CHCM).
The CHCM receives signals from 4 accelerometers, 4 height sensors and other vehicle systems to determine:
- Vehicle state
- Body and wheel motions
- Driver input.
These signals are used by the CHCM to continuously control the damping characteristics of each shock absorber to the appropriate level to provide optimum body control and vehicle ride.
Serviceable items:
- Shock absorber assembly
- Electrical link lead
- Front accelerometers
- Rear accelerometers (supplied with mounting bracket)
- Height sensors.
