System Fault Message

If a fault is detected by the Chassis Control Module (CHCM), a Controller Area Network (CAN) bus message is sent to the Instrument Cluster (IC). This message illuminates the yellow general warning indicator and displays the message Adaptive Damping Fault.

The message is transmitted via the BCM/GWM via the following CAN  buses:

The CHCM also logs an appropriate Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). The CHCM can be interrogated using a Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic system.

If a fault is detected, the CHCM implements a strategy based on the type of fault. If there is an electrical power fault, or the CHCM cannot control the shock absorbers, they default to failsafe mode. If a sensor fails that only affects 1 or more control modes an intermediate shock absorber setting is used as the lower threshold. The remaining working modes can demand higher damping as required.
