GENERAL EQUIPMENT

Procedure 

CAUTION: New transmission assemblies are supplied pre-filled with transmission fluid.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

    Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (General Procedures).

  2. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: Lifting .

  3. Remove the engine cover.

    Refer to: Engine Cover - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol .

  4. Remove the cowl vent screen.

    Refer to: Cowl Vent Screen .

    Remove the clip.

    Using a suitable engine support beam support the engine.

    General Equipment:  Engine support beam

  7. Remove the starter motor.

    Refer to: Starter Motor .

  8. Remove the front driveshaft.

    Refer to: Driveshaft - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol .

    Remove the bolt.

  10. CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.
    NOTE: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

    Remove the two bolts and discard the seals.

    Remove the 2 bolts and release the emergency park position lever.

    Release the clips.

    Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the bolt.

    Remove the 3 clips.

    Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors and release the 3 clips.

    Remove the 2 bolts and the bracket.

  17. NOTE: Only turn the engine in the normal direction of rotation.

    Remove and discard the 4 bolts.

  18. WARNING: Make sure that the transmission is secured with suitable retaining straps.

    Using a suitable stand, support the transmission.

    General Equipment:  Transmission jack

  19. NOTE: Note the orientation of the bolts prior to removal.

    Remove the 4 bolts.

    Remove the 4 bolts.

    Remove the 2 lower bolts.

  22. WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.
    CAUTION:
    • Care must be taken to avoid damaging the surrounding components.
    • Make sure that the torque converter remains in the transmission.
    NOTE: Secure the torque converter to the transmission using suitable cable ties.

    Remove the transmission.

  23. NOTE: Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

    Remove the 2 bolts and the transmission mount.

  24. CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

    Remove the Transmission breather pipe.

    Remove the 3 bolts and the exhaust bracket.

    Remove the 2 bolts and the heat shield.

    Disconnect the electrical connector and release the 2 clips.

    Remove the transmission wiring harness.

    Remove the transmission covers.

    Remove the nut and the selector lever.

    Remove the transmission plug.

    Remove the 2 bolts and the mount.
