Description And Operation: Overview

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Jaguar XE and 2017 Jaguar XE. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The SCR system is an exhaust gas after treatment solution used to reduce the nitrogen oxides within the exhaust gas.

For this purpose, a specified amount of DEF is injected into the exhaust system, downstream of the DPF. The injected DEF into the exhaust system is converted to ammonia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2). The resulting ammonia (NH3) is used within a special catalyst in the exhaust stream. The resulting reaction converts the unwanted nitrogen oxides (NOx) into harmless nitrogen (N2) and water (H2O) vapor.
