Fuel Tank And Lines - TDV6 3.0L Diesel: Overview
The fuel delivery system incorporates a low and high pressure circuits to provide the engine with sufficient fuel for all operating conditions.
The low pressure system features the following components:
- Molded plastic saddle type fuel tank
- Fuel pump module (with integral in-tank pump)
- Two fuel level sensors
- Fuel delivery and return lines
- Fuel filter assembly
The Low Pressure (LP) fuel pump is located in the bottom of the fuel tank assembly. The LP fuel pump has a Direct Current (DC) electric motor and is operated by the LP fuel pump relay. The LP fuel pump relay is controlled by the Body Control Module/Gateway Module (BCM/GWM) assembly. The LP fuel pump draws fuel from the fuel tank and delivers it to the HP fuel pump. The HP fuel pump is mounted on the engine.
The LP fuel pump also supplies fuel to the two jet pumps on either side of the fuel tank. This makes sure there is sufficient fuel in the swirl pot.
The HP system features a Bosch 'Common rail', high pressure system.
On vehicles in cold climate markets, a modified fuel pump module is installed on vehicles fitted with a Fuel Fired Booster Heater (FFBH). A FFBH fuel pump is mounted on the right side of fuel tank. A separate fuel line draws fuel from the fuel pump module to the FFBH fuel pump and an additional fuel line delivers the fuel to the FFBH in the engine compartment.
