Measuring Bridge, Piston Protusion
NOTE:

  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. Zero the gauge on the cylinder block machined face.
    CAUTION: Make sure that the surface is clean and free of foreign material.

    Special Tool(s):  303-979

  2. Take 2 measurements on each piston crown.
    CAUTION: Make sure that the surface is clean and free of foreign material.
    NOTE: Note the dial gauge readings.

  3. Use the highest piston protrusion measurement, to select the correct thickness cylinder head gasket.
