WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Jaguar XE and 2017 Jaguar XE. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
- The vehicle battery must be in good condition and fully charged before carrying out this procedure.
- Before disconnecting or removing components, make sure the area around the joint faces and connections are clean. Plug open connections to prevent contamination.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Print illustration E164806 for use later in this procedure.NOTE:
- A= dry cylinder compression test.
- B= wet cylinder compression test.
- Refer to: Spark Plugs .
- Disconnect the fuel injectors.CAUTION: Make sure the fuel injection system is disabled before carrying out a cylinder compression test. Failure to follow this step may result in damage to the vehicle.NOTE: This step must be preformed to the components on both sides of the vehicle.
- Crank engine for approximately five seconds to remove any remaining fuel in the cylinders.
- Install the compression test gauge.NOTE: Dry cylinder compression test.
General Equipment: Compression tester and adapters
-
NOTE:
- This step requires the aid of another technician.
- Crank the engine for 10 seconds, use illustration E164806 to record the figure displayed on the compression test gauge.
- Make sure the pressure is released from the compression test gauge after each cylinder recording.
- Remove the compression test gauge. Repeat the procedure for the remaining cylinders.
- Using a suitable syringe add 10 ml of clean engine oil into the cylinder.NOTE: Wet cylinder compression test.
- Install the compression test gauge.
-
NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.
- With the compression test gauge removed from the engine, crank the engine for approximately 10 seconds to remove the engine oil from the cylinder.
- The minimum cylinder compression reading recorded must be within 10% of the maximum cylinder compression reading recorded. If the difference across the cylinders is higher than 10% please contact dealer technical support (DTS) for further assistance.
- Install the spark plugs. Refer to: Spark Plugs
- Connect the fuel injectors.NOTE: This step must be preformed to the components on both sides of the vehicle.
- Using Jaguar approved diagnostic equipment, read and clear any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
