Removal And Installation: Removal

Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
Raise and support the vehicle.
WARNING: Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.

Refer to: Hood .
Refer to: Upper Timing Cover .
Refer to: Charge Air Cooler .
CAUTION: Make sure the camshaft timing marks are positioned as illustrated.
- Using the special crankshaft pulley tool, rotate the crankshaft until the camshaft locking tool can be installed.
- Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1630
- Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1625
- Torque Specification: 10 Nm
- Rotate the crankshaft counter-clockwise.
  Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1630
- Install the 2 bolts.
NOTE: The timing chain will not be under tension in the positions illustrated.
Install the special tool.
Loosen, but do not fully remove the bolt.
- Remove the special tool.
- Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1631
Remove and retain the hydraulic timing chain tensioner for installation.
Remove the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) unit.
Remove the fixed timing chain guide.
Remove the timing chain tensioner lever arm.
Remove the timing chain.
