Active Sound Design

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Jaguar XE and 2017 Jaguar XE. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Active sound design provides the vehicle occupants with an enhanced engine sound, digitally reproduced over the infotainment system speakers. The active sound design feature is available on vehicles with Ingenium I4 2.0L Diesel 240PS and Ingenium I4 2.0L Petrol 300PS engines only.

Audio systems with an external Audio Amplifier Module (AAM) have an engine speed (Revolutions Per Minute (RPM)) input from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The engine speed input allows the audio system to provide a digital audio enhancement of the engine sound. The enhanced engine sound is output over the audio speakers as an overlay to current audio system output.

The system is invisible to the vehicle occupants and is permanently active.

The Active sound design provides the vehicle occupants with an enhanced engine sound, digitally reproduced over the infotainment system speakers.

Audio systems with an external Audio Amplifier Module (AAM) have an engine speed (Revolutions Per Minute (RPM)) signal when the following engines are fitted:

The engine torque, road speed, power mode and JaguarDrive mode is also input to the Audio Head Unit (AHU) or the Infotainment Master Controller (IMC). The signals are output on the FlexRay systems bus to the Body Control Module/Gateway Module (BCM/GWM) assembly. The BCM/GWM assembly relays the signals on the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) comfort systems bus to the AHU or IMC.

The CAN signals and engine speed input allows the audio system to provide a digital audio enhancement of the engine sound. The enhanced engine sound is output over the audio speakers as an overlay to current audio system output.
