Coolant Pump (G1998226): Removal

NOTE:
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: LIFTING .

  2. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .

  3. Partially drain the cooling system.

    Refer to: COOLING SYSTEM PARTIAL DRAINING AND VACUUM FILLING .

  4. Remove the intake air resonator.

    Refer to: INTAKE AIR RESONATOR .

    Loosen the bolts, but do not fully remove.

  6. NOTE: Note the position of the accessory drive belt to aid installation.

    1. Release the accessory drive belt tension.
    2. Insert a suitable tool, where illustrated, to prevent tension being applied to the accessory drive belt.

    Release the accessory drive belt from the pulleys, as illustrated.

    Remove the coolant pump pulley.

  9. CAUTION: Make sure that the wiring harness is positioned securely to one side, to prevent it being trapped between the coolant pump and cylinder block when the coolant pump is installed.

    Disconnect the coolant pump electrical connectors.

CAUTION:
  • Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.

Remove the coolant pump.
