Brake Booster (G2172784): Overview
Power assistance for the braking system is provided by a vacuum operated, non-active brake booster. The vacuum required for brake booster operation is created by the variable flow oil pump with integral vacuum pump. The variable flow oil pump with integral vacuum pump is driven by the engine.
Rigid plastic brake vacuum piping connects the brake vacuum pump to the brake booster. A check valve is installed in the piping to maintain the vacuum necessary for brake booster operation. The brake vacuum pipe also incorporates a brake vacuum switch. The signals from the brake vacuum switch are used by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) for stop/start system operation.
On vehicles with Ingenium I4 2.0L Diesel 240 PS engine the vacuum from the variable flow oil pump with integral vacuum pump is also used for the turbocharger control. For additional information, refer to: TURBOCHARGER - INGENIUM I4 2.0L DIESEL - MID, LOW POWER
