Pinpoint Test B: Noisy Control Arm

  1. B1: NOISY CONTROL ARM INITIAL CHECKS 
    1. Confirm the customer noise

    Has the customers noise been confirmed

    Yes 

    GO to  B2.

    No 

    No further action required

  2. B2: CHECKS FOR CAMPAIGNS, BULLETINS AND SSM'S 
    1. Check the jaguar Land Rover claims submission system to clarify if the vehicle has any outstanding campaigns. Refer to the corresponding bulletins and SSM's which may be valid for the specific customer complaint

    Has a corresponding campaign, bulletin or SSM been located?

    Yes 

    Complete the recommendations as required

    No 

    GO to  B3.

  3. B3: ORIGIN/CORNER CHECK 
    1. Confirm the origin of the noise symptom, if available using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment (Steelman ChassisEAR)

    Has the noise origin been located to a wheel/suspension corner assembly?

    Yes 

    GO to  B4.

    No 

    Repeat the identification of the noise source and repair as required

  4. B4: SUSPENSION SYSTEM CHECK 
    1. Check suspension joints/links/knuckles for wear/damage, also check suspension system fixings/fasteners are torqued to the correct specification

    Were there any worn/damaged links or knuckles or loose fixings/fasteners found?

    Yes 

    Rectify the vehicle as necessary

    No 

    GO to  B5.

  5. B5: UPPER/LOWER CONTROL ARM CHECK 
    1. Confirm the origin of the noise symptom within the corner assembly, if available using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment (Steelman ChassisEAR)

    Has the noise origin been isolated to the upper/lower control arm?

    Yes 

    GO to  B6.

    No 

    Repeat identification of the noise source and repair as required

  6. B6: UPPER/LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSH CHECK 
    1. If the noise has been isolated to the upper control arm, confirm condition of the upper control arm bushes, refer to upper control arm graphic item 1
    2. If the noise has been isolated to the front lower control arm, confirm condition of the front lower control arm bush, refer to front lower control arm graphic item 1
    3. If the noise has been isolated to the rear lower control arm, confirm condition of rear lower control arm bush, refer to rear lower control arm graphic item 1

    Has the noise origin been isolated to the upper/lower control arm bushes?

    Yes 

    If the bushes are a serviceable part, install a new bushes as per normal procedure, otherwise rectify the vehicle as necessary. Include the word "BUSH" in the verbatim

    No 

    GO to  B7.

  7. B7: UPPER/LOWER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINT CHECK 
    1. If the noise has been isolated to the upper control arm and the bush condition is confirmed as OK, confirm condition of the upper control arm ball joint (item 2) and ball joint boot (item 3). Refer to upper control arm graphic items 2 and 3
    2. If the noise has been isolated to the front lower control arm and the bush condition is confirmed as OK, confirm condition of the front lower control arm ball joint (item 2) and ball joint boot (item 3). Refer to upper control arm graphic items 2 and 3
    3. If the noise has been isolated to the rear lower control arm and the bush condition is confirmed as OK, confirm condition of the rear lower control arm ball joint (item 2). Refer to rear lower control arm graphic item 2

    Has the noise origin been isolated to the upper/lower control arm ball joint?

    Yes 

    Check if the Ball Joint has obvious free play. If yes rectify the vehicle as necessary and include the words "FREE PLAY" in the verbatim

    Check if the Ball Joint Boot is split/damaged/leaking. If yes rectify the vehicle as necessary and include the word "BOOT" in the verbatim

    No 

    Repeat identification of the noise source and repair as required
