Pinpoint Test A: Noisy Wheel Bearing Tests

  1. A1: NOISY WHEEL BEARING INITIAL CHECKS 
    1. Confirm customer noise

    Has the customers concern been confirmed?

    Yes 

    GO to  A2.

    No 

    No further action required

  2. A2: CHECK FOR CAMPAIGNS, BULLETINS AND SSMS 
    1. Check the Jaguar Land Rover claims submission system to clarify if the vehicle has any outstanding campaigns. Refer to the corresponding bulletins and SSMs which may be valid for the specific customer complaint

    Has a corresponding campaign, bulletin or SSM been located?

    Yes 

    Complete the recommendations as required

    No 

    GO to  A3.

  3. A3: ORIGIN/CORNER CHECK 
    1. Confirm the origin of the noise symptom, if available using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment (Steelman ChassisEAR)

    Has the noise origin been located to a wheel/suspension corner assembly?

    Yes 

    GO to  A4.

    No 

    No further action required

  4. A4: SUSPENSION SYSTEM CHECK 
    1. Check suspension joints and links for wear/damage and check suspension system fixings/fasteners are torqued to the correct specification

    Were there any worn/damaged or loose fixings/fasteners found?

    Yes 

    Rectify vehicle as necessary

    No 

    GO to  A5.

  5. A5: TIRE CHECK 
    1. Check the tire for uneven/irregular tire wear or being out of shape

    Was there any uneven/irregular tire wear found or is the tire out of shape?

    Yes 

    Swap the position of the out of specification tire to the opposite side of the vehicle and complete a road test. If the noise has reduced/gone or swapped origin, reposition the wheels to their original position and advise the customer to fit a new tire

    No 

    GO to  A6.

  6. A6: WHEEL BEARING CHECK 
    1. Check that the noise is coming from within the knuckle/hub assembly, if available using a stethoscope

    Can you confirm that the noise is coming from the wheel bearing?

    Yes 

    Rectify the vehicle as necessary

    No 

    Refer to the relevant article of the repair information for Drive Axle/Differential, Transfer Case, Steering System REFER to: STEERING SYSTEM - RWD or Brake system REFER to: BRAKE SYSTEM
