Rear Section - V6 3.0L S/C Petrol AWD And RWD
The stainless steel rear section is similar to both the AWD and the RWD vehicles. The difference is in the shape of the front silencer and the two pipes that connect it to the center resonator silencer.
The two curved pipes from the front section connect into the front silencer and are secured with graphite clamps. The graphite clamps are designed to prevent the ingress of air (oxygen) through the joints which will lead to false values being detected by the mid- and post catalyst HO2S 's. This will result in fuel trimming errors and mis-diagnosis of catalyst condition.
Two pipes from the front silencer connect directly into the center Helmholtz resonators. The Helmholtz resonator houses perforated tubes separated by baffle plates and it is specifically tuned to reduce a specific tuned acoustic frequency in the exhaust system. Exhaust gasses exit the resonators via two outlet pipes. The 2 pipes from the center resonators split the system into two sections which each connect to the pipes of the rear section and are each secured with a clamp. Each pipe has a welded hanger bracket which allow the rear section to be supported on mounting rubbers. A further bracket is welded to each pipe which braces the two pipes together.
The two rear silencers each have a welded inlet pipe which mate with the outlet pipes from the resonator silencer and are each secured with a graphite clamp.
The fabricated rear silencers have two perforated tubes which are supported on two baffle plates. The exhaust gasses are expelled from the rear silencer via a single outlet pipe. The outlet pipe from each silencer has a welded hanger bar which supports the rear silencer on mounting rubbers. The outlet pipe is fitted with a polished stainless steel finisher which is secured to the silencer with a Torca clamp.
