Timing Chain TENSIONER - Engine Set (G1841714): Removal
- Check all timing components for wear and install new components if required.
- Removal steps in this procedure contains installation details.
- Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

- Disconnect the battery ground cable.

WARNING: Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.
Raise and support the vehicle.

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.

- Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
- Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable vapors are always present and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.CAUTION:
- Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
- Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.
- This fuel pipe can be re-used, inspect for signs of damage. Renew if necessary.

Remove the FEAD belt.

WARNING: The wheel and tire assembly will be heavy.NOTE:
- Note the position of the component before removal.
- Left hand illustration shown, right hand similar.
Remove the right-hand front wheel and tire.
- Refer to: ENGINE UNDERSHIELD

CAUTION: Use a wooden block to protect the oil pan when supporting the engine.
Using a suitable hydraulic jack, support the engine.

NOTE: Engine shown removed for clarity.
Remove the component.

CAUTION:
- Remove and discard the high-pressure fuel supply lines.
- Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
- Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

CAUTION:
- Install new high-pressure fuel supply lines.
- Do not fully install the component at this stage.
- The openings must remain sealed at this stage.

NOTE: Engine shown removed for clarity.
Install the component.
Torque : 48 Nm
Remove the special tool.
Torque : 48 Nm

NOTE: Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.

CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the component.NOTE: Make sure to use the aluminum lug provided on the timing cover to lever against.

CAUTION: Using a suitable tool, lock the component.

CAUTION: Discard the component.

NOTE:
- Only rotate the engine in the normal direction of rotation.
- Rotate the engine to the positions indicated.
The engine is now in the timed position.
Remove the crankshaft position sensor.

CAUTION: Only tighten the bolt finger-tight.
Make sure that the special tool is correctly located.
Special Tool(s): 303-1447
- Remove the special tool.
Install the crankshaft position sensor.
Torque : 10 Nm

NOTE:
- Only rotate the engine in the normal direction of rotation.
- Rotate the engine to the positions indicated.
Rotate the crankshaft 90 degrees.

CAUTION: Do not tension the tie strap at this stage.NOTE: Right side.
Install the tie strap loose at this stage in the positions indicated.

CAUTION:
- Note the orientation of the tie strap in the illustration before applying tension.
- Make sure the tension is maintained on the timing chain.
Remove the timing chain tensioner.

CAUTION: Discard the component.

CAUTION: If a new timing component is to be installed, then components labelled 2 in the illustration, must be installed (as this is the latest version of the timing components). Do not attempt to install the components labelled 1, as damage to the engine may occur.
The differences and orientation of the timing components can be seen. Original components (1) new components (2). The original timing chain tensioner (1) is angled, the new timing chain tensioner (2) is not angled.

CAUTION: Make sure that a new component is installed.
Torque : 25 Nm
Install the timing chain tensioner. Do not release the pin at this stage.
Torque : 12 Nm

CAUTION: Do not tension the tie strap at this stage.NOTE: Left side.
Install the tie strap loose at this stage in the positions indicated.

CAUTION:
- Note the orientation of the tie strap in the illustration before applying tension.
- Make sure the tension is maintained on the timing chain.
Remove the timing chain tensioner.

CAUTION: Discard the component.

CAUTION: Make sure that a new component is installed.
Torque : 25 Nm
Install the timing chain tensioner. Do not release the pin at this stage.
Torque : 12 Nm
