Timing Chain TENSIONER - Engine Set (G1841714): Installation
-
NOTE: Left side.
Apply and maintain tension on the component.
-
Release the retaining pin.
-
NOTE: Right side.
Apply and maintain tension on the component.
-
Release the retaining pin.
- NOTE:
- Only rotate the engine in the normal direction of rotation.
- Rotate the engine to the positions indicated.
Rotate the crankshaft clockwise two full turns to settle the components.
The piston should apply tension to the timing chain guide.
-
CAUTION: Make sure the tension is maintained.
Using considerable force, move the timing chain guide away from the tensioner to allow the first stage ratchet mechanism to be applied.
The piston should eject slightly, and an audible click should be heard.
If the piston can be pushed back, the tensioner is not correct. Repeat steps 7- 10.
If the piston will not retract, and tension is on the timing chain. The tensioner is correct.
- Repeat steps 8- 12 for the other side.
-
CAUTION:
- Use only a plastic scraper when removing the sealing material.
- Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
- Make sure that the Land Rover approved cleaning fluid (Loctite 7063) is used to clean the mating faces.
Apply RTV sealant (Loctite 5901G) to the areas shown.
-
