Symptom Chart

SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSE ACTION
The electric park brake will not engage or release (with no electric park brake warning message)
  • Battery/charging system fault
  • Both electric park brake control module fuse(s) failure
  • Electric park brake left/right actuator incorrectly installed to the vehicle
  • Rear left/right brake pad(s) excessively worn
  • Service brake incorrectly adjusted following brake pads change
  • Rear left/right brake pad(s) seized (in caliper)
  • Rear left/right brake caliper slide(s) seized
  • Rear left/right brake caliper piston(s) seized
  • Electric park brake left/right actuator internal fault
  • Electric park brake switch disconnected
 
NOTE: The amber brake system warning indicator may be illuminated with these fault conditions
  • Refer to the appropriate service information and test the battery and charging system
  • Check fuse(s)
  • Check the left/right electric park brake actuator is correctly installed to the vehicle. Rectify as required
  • Check the rear brake pad(s) for excessive wear
  • Refer to the appropriate service information and perform routine - Parking brake pad replacement - Exit maintenance mode
  • Check the rear left/right brake pad(s) for seizure in the caliper
  • Check the rear left/right brake caliper slide(s) for seizure
  • Check the rear left/right brake caliper piston(s) for seizure
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment, check the electric park brake control module for related DTCs and refer to the relevant DTC index
The electric park brake will not engage or release (with electric park brake warning message)
  • Battery/charging system fault
  • Electric park brake left/right actuator incorrectly installed to the vehicle
  • Rear left/right brake pad(s) excessively worn
  • Rear left/right brake pad(s) seized (in caliper)
  • Rear left/right brake caliper slide(s) seized
  • Rear left/right brake caliper piston(s) seized
  • Electric park brake left/right actuator internal fault
  • Refer to the appropriate service information and test the battery and charging system
  • Check the left/right electric park brake actuator is correctly installed to the vehicle. Rectify as required
  • Check the rear brake pad(s) for excessive wear
  • Check the rear left/right brake pad(s) for seizure in the caliper
  • Check the rear left/right brake caliper slide(s) for seizure
  • Check the rear left/right brake caliper piston(s) for seizure
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment, check the electric park brake control module for related DTCs and refer to the relevant DTC index
No communication with the electric park brake control module
  • Both electric park brake control module fuse(s) failure
  • Electric park brake control module power or ground circuit open circuit, high resistance
  • Battery/charging system fault
  • High speed CAN bus (chassis or powertrain) circuit short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance
  • Electric park brake control module internal fault
  • Check fuse(s)
  • Refer to the appropriate service information and check the electric park brake control module power and ground circuits for open circuit, high resistance
  • Ensure battery is fully charged and in serviceable condition. Check battery voltage at electric park brake control module
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment, perform a CAN network integrity test. Refer to the appropriate service information and check the high speed CAN bus (chassis and powertrain) circuit for short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment, check for related electric park brake control module DTCs and refer to the relevant DTC index
'Park Brake Fault' displayed on message centre with associated warning lamps
  • Wheel/tire size incorrect
  • Electric park brake system fault
  • Check that the wheels and tires comply with the manufacturer's specification for the vehicle
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment, check the electric park brake control module for related DTCs and refer to the relevant DTC index
Brakes drag
  • Battery/charging system fault
  • Electric park brake left/right actuator incorrectly installed to the vehicle
  • Rear left/right brake pad(s) excessively worn
  • Rear left/right brake pad(s) seized (in caliper)
  • Rear left/right brake caliper piston(s) seized
  • Electric park brake left/right actuator internal fault
  • Refer to the appropriate service information and test the battery and charging system
  • Check the left/right electric park brake actuator is correctly installed to the vehicle. Rectify as required
  • Check the rear brake pad(s) for excessive wear
  • Check the rear left/right brake pad(s) for seizure in the caliper
  • Check the rear left/right brake caliper slide(s) for seizure
  • Check the rear left/right brake caliper piston(s) for seizure
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment, check the electric park brake control module for related DTCs and refer to the relevant DTC index
