Parking Brake - Overview : Overview
The EPB (Electric Parking Brake) is an electrically actuated system that operates on the rear brake calipers. An EPB actuator is located on each rear caliper.
The system consists of:
- An EPB switch
- Two EPB actuators
- An EPBCM (Electric Park Brake Control Module)
- Park brake warning indicator.
The EPB is controlled by the EPBCM. In response to commands from the driver through the EPB switch, the EPBCM controls the operation of the EPB actuators. Each actuator adjusts the clamp load to apply and release the rear brake calipers.
The EPB has the following operating modes:
- Static apply/release
- Gradient dependent apply
- DAR (Drive Away Release)
- Automatic transmission release
- ROR (Roll Off Re-clamp)
- Driver exit warning
- Dynamic apply.
Signals from other vehicle systems for operation of the EPB are transmitted to the EPBCM on the HS (High Speed) CAN (Controller Area Network) powertrain systems bus.
