Floor Console Operation - Additional Ultimate Components

Table Mechanism

Each table switch is connected to the Rear Entertainment Control Module (RECM). Operation of either table switch in the raise position provides a ground path signal to the RECM, which recognizes the request to raise the table.

The table latch solenoid is supplied with a power supply from the floor console junction box relay and fuse 6 (10A). The RECM provides a ground path for the latch solenoid which operates to release the table from its stowed position. The RECM operates the table motor to start to raise the table and after a short period the RECM de-energizes the table latch solenoid.

The table switches have a 'one-shot' feature on the 'up' position only. If the switch is operated using the 'one-shot' position, the table will rise automatically to a calibrated maximum height position. If either of the switches are operated in the 'down' position during this process, the table motor will be stopped immediately. Table height adjustment can be achieved by using the table switch 'down' position until the required table height is achieved. The table can only be lowered to a calibrated position, and will only lower further if the table is rotated to the forward (stowed) position and the table forward microswitch is closed to ground and this is detected by the RECM.

If both table switches are operated simultaneously, one in the down position and one in the 'up' position, the RECM prioritizes the table 'up' command and the table 'down' request will be ignored.

Table Motor Encoder

The table motor encoder outputs a digital pulse to the RECM based on the relative position of the table. To establish a datum position, the table must be lowered using the 'down' position on the table switch to the stowed position to create a 'stowed' datum position.

If power to the RECM has been disrupted or the RECM Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) has become corrupted, the RECM will operate the table motor at a reduced speed and torque until the table is in the stowed position and the stowed microswitch is closed to ground. Once in this position, the stowed microswitch signal is used to determine the stowed position datum and the table can be raised and its position monitored by the encoder pulse counts. Once the datum is recorded the RECM will enable the table motor full speed and torque output for normal operation.

The datum position is stored in the RECM EEPROM. When power is removed from the RECM the datum position is stored in the EEPROM and read by the RECM again on power up. The RECM performs a check of the datum position based on the stowed switch signal.

Table Motor Current Control

The power supply for the table motor is supplied via an H-Bridge which reverses the polarity of the motor and allows it to operate in either direction to raise or lower the table. The H-Bridge also allows the RECM to monitor the current draw of the table motor during operation. Any sharp increase in current draw, will cause the RECM to withdraw the power supply to the motor and the selected function will have to be re-selected using the table switch. A restriction in the table movement could be a possible cause of an increased current draw on the motor.

Bottle Cool Box

For details of the Thermal Electrical Device (TED) for the bottle cool box refer to the 'Refrigeration' article. Refer to: Refrigeration

For details of the bottle cool box illumination, refer to the 'Interior Lighting' article. Refer to: Interior Lighting

The rack on the bottle cool box door drives the small spur gear as the door is opened. The small spur gear then drives the large spur gear which in turn drives the damper gear which operates the damper.

The flat edge on the large spur gear spacer operates a microswitch which completes a ground path to the RECM to turn on the bottle cool box light emitting diode (LED)s.

The bottle holder pin moves in the spiral groove in the large spur gear and tilts the bottle holder forwards. When the door is closed, the large spur gear rotates in the opposite direction, tilting the bottle holder backwards to its stowed position.

Rear Floor Console Stowage Box

For details of the iPad™ audio select switches and AVIO panel, Refer to the 'Audio' and 'Video' articles. Refer to: AUDIO SYSTEM - SYSTEM OPERATION AND COMPONENT DESCRIPTION (G1772669) and VIDEO SYSTEM - SYSTEM OPERATION AND COMPONENT DESCRIPTION (G1772675)

For details of the rear floor console stowage box illumination, refer to the 'Interior Lighting' article. Refer to: Interior Lighting

The stowage box armrest is secured by a spring loaded latch which is released by pressing the release located forward of the armrest.

The armrest is attached to and pivots on a hinge bracket. The armrest hinges are spring loaded and controlled by dampers.
