Oil Pan (G1997943): Installation

The following step(s) applies to: 

All vehicles 

1. NOTE:

   • Make sure that all traces of the old sealant are removed from the mating faces.
   • Apply silicone gasket sealant or equivalent meeting Jaguar specification.

   Apply silicone gasket sealant or equivalent meeting Jaguar specification as illustrated.

   Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .

2. CAUTION: Install the bolts in the noted position.

   • Install the oil pan.
   • Partially install the 2 oil pan bolts finger tight to make sure the oil pan is fitted in the correct position.
3. CAUTION: Install the bolts in the noted position.

   Partially tighten the 2 fitted oil pan bolts.

   Torque: 10 Nm 

4. CAUTION: Install the bolts in the noted position.

   Install the remaining bolts and tighten fully following the sequence illustrated.

   Torque: 25 Nm 

5. CAUTION: Install the bolts in the noted position.

   Install the remaining 3 oil pan bolts and tighten to the correct torque.

   Torque: 25 Nm

   Install the 4 bolts securing the transmission assembly to the oil pan assembly.

   Torque: 48 Nm 

7. • Install the NVH  pad.
   • Install the 4 clips securing the NVH  to the oil pan assembly.
8. • Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes into the correct position.
   • Install and tighten the bolt securing the transmission tubes to the oil pan assembly.

     Torque: 12 Nm 

9. CAUTION: Inspect the O-ring seal, install a new component if damaged.
   • Install the oil level gauge tube.
   • Install and tighten the bolt securing the oil level gauge in position.

     Torque: 8 Nm 

10. CAUTION:

    • Inspect the front cover and replace if necessary.
    • Make sure that the surface of the front cover and the engine is clean and free of foreign material.
    • Steps 10-13 must be completed within 7 minutes of starting to apply the RTV.

    Apply RTV sealant in the position shown.

    Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .

    • Install the engine front cover.
    • Use the front cover alignment tool to align the front cover.

      Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1672 

12. CAUTION: Do not fully tighten the bolts at this stage.

    Install and finger tighten the 4 bolts.

13. CAUTION: Continuous forward pressure must be applied on the tool.

    Fully tighten the 4 bolts in the sequence illustrated.

    Torque: 12 Nm 

14. CAUTION: This step must be completed within 40 minutes of starting to apply the RTV.

    Install and tighten the 8 bolts.

    Torque: 12 Nm

    Remove the front cover alignment tool.

    Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1672 

16. CAUTION: This step is only required if the front cover is re-used.

    • Install the special tool.

      Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1628 

    • Rotate the special tool and the crankshaft front seal 35° in a counter clockwise direction.
    • Remove the special tool and the crankshaft front seal.
    • Remove and discard the crankshaft front seal.
17. CAUTION: This step is only required if the front cover is re-used.

    • Install a new crankshaft front seal to the special tool.

      Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1628 

      Renew Part: Crankshaft front oil seal  Quantity: 1. 

    • Install the special tool and the crankshaft front seal.
    • Rotate the crankshaft front seal and special tool 35° in a clockwise direction.
    • Remove the special tool.
18. Install the 2 timing belt idler pulleys.

    Torque: 25 Nm 

19. • Install the A/C  compressor into the correct position.

      Torque: 12 Nm 

    • Install and tighten the 3 nuts securing the A/C  compressor in position.

      Torque: 25 Nm 

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    Vehicles with All Wheel Drive (AWD) 

20. • Install the front drive halfshaft support bracket into the correct position.
    • Install and tighten the 3 bolts securing the front drive halfshaft support bracket in position.

      Torque: 25 Nm 

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    All vehicles 

21. Install the crankshaft damper.

    Refer to: CRANKSHAFT PULLEY .

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    Vehicles with Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) 

22. Install the front subframe.

    Refer to the appropriate service information.

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    Vehicles with All Wheel Drive (AWD) 

23. Install the front differential case.

    Refer to: DIFFERENTIAL - INGENIUM I4 2.0L DIESEL/INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL, AWD .

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    All vehicles 

24. Refill the engine with oil.

    Refer to: ENGINE OIL VACUUM DRAINING AND FILLING .

25. Lower the vehicle.
26. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
