Continuous Variable Valve Lift (G2142081): Removal

NOTE:

- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
- Remove the fuel injectors.
Refer to: FUEL INJECTORS (G1998238)
Loosen the 4 Continuous Variable Valve Lift (CVVL) assembly bolts as illustrated.
Fully remove the 2 CVVL assembly bolts as illustrated.
Install the appropriate special tools.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1647

WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.CAUTION: Do not allow the CVVL assembly to be rested on the brake units.
- Fully remove the 8 bolts securing the CVVL assembly in the indicated sequence.
- Remove the CVVL assembly from the engine.
- If the CVVL assembly is being replaced under warranty, Make sure that an engine oil sample is taken and the data sheet is completed and sent back with the returned CVVL assembly.
- NOTE: This step is only required if the CVVL is removed for access, and not being replaced with a new CVVL assembly.
Remove and discard the CVVL gasket.
Renew Part: Hydraulic valve control unit to cylinder head gasket Quantity: 1.

CAUTION:
- Take extra care when handling the component.
- Make sure all the CVVL brakes are fully reset.
NOTE: This step is only required if the CVVL is removed for access, and not being replaced with a new CVVL assembly.- Make sure the CVVL assembly is placed on the edge of a workbench, as illustrated.
- Using the special tool press back all 8 CVVL brakes to make sure that they are all in the fully reset position.
