High Pressure Fuel Pump (G2043272): Removal

WARNING:
Residual pressure may still be present in the fuel system when disconnecting a fuel line. Make sure to cover the fuel line connection with a lint free cloth to capture any escaping fuel.
CAUTION:
Extreme cleanliness must be exercised when handling these components. Make sure that all tools and the surrounding area is clean before commencing work.

- Always follow the fuel system health and safety precautions, when carrying out any repairs to the fuel system.

- Release the fuel pressure.
Refer to: FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE
- Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
Remove the engine cover.
Remove the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.

CAUTION: Discard the clips if damaged or worn.
Release the coolant hose and wiring harness clips.
Disconnect the High Pressure (HP) fuel pump electrical connector.
Remove the engine lifting eye.
Disconnect and reposition the engine wiring harness.
- Clean all the fuel line unions and the surrounding area before working on the fuel system.

Make sure to cover the fuel line connection with a lint free cloth to capture any escaping fuel.CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.
- Carefully release the HP fuel line. Wait until the residual pressure is fully released.
- Disconnect the HP fuel line from the high pressure pump.

- Carefully release the Low Pressure (LP) fuel line. Wait until the residual pressure is fully released.
- Disconnect the LP fuel line from the high pressure pump.

Disconnect the LP fuel line connector.

Remove the 2 fuel lines.

CAUTION: Loosen each of the bolts half a turn at a time until the spring tension is fully released.
Remove the HP fuel pump. Discard the bolts.
Remove and discard the HP fuel pump O-ring seal.

CAUTION: Note the orientation of the component prior to removal.
Remove and inspect the HP fuel pump tappet, replace if damaged or worn.
