Fuel Injectors (G1998238): Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

CAUTION: New fuel injector replacement kits must be installed.

Installation steps 2 to 7 must be completed for each of the fuel injectors.

Renew Part: Fuel Injector replacement kits Quantity: 4.

Install the new O-ring seal and washer.

Install the special tool to the fuel injector with the 'T' symbol towards the top of the fuel injector as shown.

Using the special tool, install the new Teflon™ seal to the fuel injector.

Special Tool(s): 310-198
Wait 2 minutes to allow the Teflon™ seal to recover its shape.

1. Remove the special tool.
  Special Tool(s): JLR-310-257
2. Check for correct installment of the Teflon™ seal.

Install the new fuel injector spring clamp.

Carefully install all the fuel injectors into the fuel rail.

Make sure the fuel injectors are correctly aligned.

CAUTION: Install new clips if damaged or worn.

Install the fuel injector wiring harness.

Install the appropriate special tools. If a new cylinder head has not been installed then the special tool JLR-310-255 with the threaded section must be used. If a new cylinder head has been installed then the special tool JLR-310-256 without the threaded section must be used.

Special Tool(s): JLR-310-255, JLR-310-256

1. Install the fuel rail and fuel injector assembly allowing the guide pins to control position.
2. Tighten the bolts 1 turn at a time.
  Torque: 20 Nm
Remove the special tools.
Special Tool(s): JLR-310-255, JLR-310-256
Install the remaining 2 bolts.
Torque: 20 Nm

Tighten the bolts in the sequence illustrated.

Torque: 30 Nm
Install the spark plugs.
Refer to: SPARK PLUGS
CAUTION: Fuel lines may be used a maximum of 4 times, paint mark fuel line after each full tightening sequence.
1. Install the HP fuel pump to fuel rail line hand tight until the 2 unions are fully seated.
2. Fully tighten the HP fuel pump union.
  Torque: 21 Nm
3. Fully tighten the fuel rail union.
  Torque: 21 Nm
4. Wait for 30 seconds.
5. Check the HP fuel pump union torque.
  Torque: 21 Nm
6. Check the fuel rail union torque.
  Torque: 21 Nm
CAUTION: Fuel lines may be used a maximum of 4 times, paint mark fuel line after each full tightening sequence.
1. Install the HP fuel pump supply line hand tight until the union is fully seated.
2. Install the HP fuel pump supply line mounting bracket bolts hand tight, then loosen by 90 degrees.
3. Fully tighten the HP fuel pump supply line union.
  Torque: 21 Nm
4. Fully tighten the HP fuel pump supply line mounting bracket bolts.
  Torque: 11.5 Nm
5. Wait for 30 seconds.
6. Check the HP fuel pump supply line union torque.
  Torque: 21 Nm
7. Connect the fuel supply line connector.
CAUTION: Make sure that the electrical connectors are installed correctly.
- Connect the engine wiring harness.
  Torque: 8.5 Nm
- Connect the fuel injector electrical connectors.
- Gently pull each fuel injector connector to make sure it has been installed correctly.
Connect the engine wiring harness.
Torque: 8.5 Nm
Connect the breather.
Install the NVH material.
Install the engine cover.
Connect the startup battery ground cable.

Bleed the fuel system and check for leaks.
