The 4 fuel injectors are located between the cylinder head and the fuel rail. The fuel injectors are sealed in the cylinder head with O-ring seals and held in position by the fuel rail.

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) supplies the power and the ground for each fuel injector. Each fuel injector contains a solenoid operated needle valve, which opens when the solenoid winding is energized. While the needle valve is open, fuel is sprayed into the combustion chamber. The amount of fuel injected and the timing of the injection period is controlled by the PCM using data from other sensors.

If a fuel injector fails, the engine will suffer from unstable idle speed, poor Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) and poor emissions performance. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) in the Instrument Cluster (IC) will also be illuminated.
