Brake Pads - Project 8 (G2248944): Removal

WARNING:
- Brake pads must be renewed in axle sets only. Failure to follow this instruction may result in braking efficiency being impaired.
- Do not use compressed air to clean brake components. Dust from friction materials can be harmful if inhaled.
CAUTION:
- The brake disc can be easily damaged. Do not strike or lever on the brake disc.
- Take care not to contaminate the brake pad friction materials or the brake discs.
- Use only new brake fluid of the correct specification from airtight containers.
- Do not mix brands of brake fluid as they may not be compatible.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- If new brake pads are installed, the brake pad wear indicator sensor must be replaced.
- Connect the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment and set the Electric Park Brake (EPB) to the maintenance position.
General Equipment: Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment

NOTE: This step is only required if the JLR approved diagnostic equipment is not available.
Set the EPB to the maintenance position.

NOTE: This step is only required if the vehicle has no electrical power.
Release the EPB.

- Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

- Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
Refer to: WHEEL AND TIRE - PROJECT 8
- Disconnect the EPB actuator electrical connector.
- Disconnect and release the brake pad wear sensor.
- Remove the anti-rattle spring.

CAUTION: Make sure that the brake hose does not support the full weight of the brake caliper assembly.
- Remove the dust caps.
- Undo the 2 brake caliper slide pins.
- Using a suitable tie strap, tie the caliper aside.

CAUTION: Note the correct orientation of the brake pads prior to removal.
- Remove the anti-rattle spring from the inboard brake pad.
- Remove the brake pads.

NOTE: Only do this step if new brake pads are to be installed.
- Release the 4 grommets.
- Release the wiring harness from the clip.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove and discard the brake pad wear sensor.
