The Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) is an integral part of the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) control module. It is installed opposite to the driver's side of the engine compartment. The ABS control module is mechanically fixed to a bracket installed between the front bumper mounting bracket and the suspension housing.
The HCU is a 4-channel unit that modulates the supply of hydraulic pressure to the brakes under the control of the ABS control module. The primary and secondary outlet ports of the brake master cylinder are connected to primary and secondary inlet ports of the HCU. The primary circuit in the HCU supplies hydraulic pressure to 2 separate outlet ports for the front right and the rear left brakes. The secondary circuit provides hydraulic pressure to 2 separate outlet ports for the front left and the rear right brakes.
The HCU has 3 brake operating modes as follows:
- The normal braking/Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD)
- The ABS braking
- The active braking.
