Windshield (G1829878): Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Jaguar XE and 2019 Jaguar XE. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CAUTION:
    • Use a suitable abrasive body contamination remover that removes silicone and contamination from the body without scratching it (For example: Dow Betabrade F1 or similar). Failure to follow this caution will cause damage to the body or windshield bonding failure.
    • Use a suitable non-smearing spray cleaner for glass, which is suitable for polyurethane pre-applied adhesive (For example: Dow Betaclean 3300). Failure to follow this caution will cause windshield bonding failure.

    • Apply a 2mm thin line of a suitable windshield contamination remover (For example: Dow Betabrade F1 or similar) to the area highlighted.
    • Using a lint free cloth, firmly clean the highlighted area in a forward and backward motion until the cleaner is dry.
    • Using the suitable non-smearing glass cleaner (For example: Dow Betaclean 3300) spray the area highlighted.
    • Make sure that the highlighted area is clean and dry from any trace of both glass cleaners.
  2. CAUTION:
    • Use a suitable abrasive windshield contamination remover that removes silicone and contamination from the glass without scratching it (For example: Dow Betabrade F1 or similar). Failure to follow this caution will cause damage to the windshield or bonding failure.
    • Use a suitable non-smearing spray cleaner for glass, which is suitable for polyurethane pre-applied adhesive (For example: Dow Betaclean 3300). Failure to follow this caution will cause windshield bonding failure.
    NOTE: Steps 2 - 4 are only applicable if the original component is being installed.

    • Apply a 2mm thin line of a suitable windshield contamination remover (For example: Dow Betabrade F1 or similar) to the area highlighted.
    • Using a lint free cloth, firmly clean the highlighted area in a forward and backward motion until the cleaner is dry.
    • Using the suitable non-smearing glass cleaner (For example: Dow Betaclean 3300) spray the area highlighted.
    • Make sure that the highlighted area is clean and dry from any trace of both glass cleaners.
    • Spray a light covering of the non-smearing glass cleaner to the area highlighted (the bonding area) and lightly run finger across surface of glass cleaner to reduce the surface tension, while watching the liquid to wet out correctly.
    • If wetting out does not happen and contamination is present the surface of the glass will look like the image above highlighted with the red cross. If this is the case, repeat the above process only one more time, reject the glass for contamination if this procedure is required more than twice.
    • If the glass looks like the image above marked with the green tick then move to the next step.
  3. CAUTION:
    • Use a suitable abrasive windshield contamination remover that removes silicone and contamination from the glass without scratching it (For example: Dow Betabrade F1 or similar). Failure to follow this caution will cause damage to the windshield or bonding failure.
    • Use a suitable non-smearing spray cleaner for glass, which is suitable for polyurethane pre-applied adhesive (For example: Dow Betaclean 3300). Failure to follow this caution will cause windshield bonding failure.
    NOTE: Vehicles with heated front windshield only.

    • Apply a 2mm thin line of a suitable windshield contamination remover (For example: Dow Betabrade F1 or similar) to the 4 areas highlighted.
    • Using a lint free cloth, firmly clean the 4 highlighted areas until the cleaner is dry.
    • Using the suitable non-smearing glass cleaner (For example: Dow Betaclean 3300) spray the 4 highlighted areas.
    • Make sure that the 4 highlighted areas are clean and dry from any trace of both glass cleaners.
  4. NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.

    Using a suitable file to file down location peg as shown in the illustration.

    General Equipment: Flat file 

  5. CAUTION: Make sure 2 service kits LR078295 are used.

    Follow the windshield service kit instructions.

    Renew Part: Windshield service kit LR078295  Quantity: 2  .

  6. CAUTION: Make sure that service kit LR078295 is used.
    NOTE: Vehicles with heated front windshield only.

    • Apply a bead of sealant to the 4 highlighted areas as shown.
    • Using a suitable plastic tool, make sure the sealant is finished as shown.
  7. CAUTION:
    • Make sure that service kit LR078295 is used.
    • Touching the adhesive surface will impair re-bonding.
    • Make sure all mating faces are clean and dry before applying sealant.

    Apply a continuous bead of sealant to the windshield as shown.

  8. WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.
    CAUTION: Make sure that equal pressure is applied to the full length of the component.

    With assistance install the windshield.

  9. NOTE: Make sure that the gap around the component is even.

    • Make sure that the gaps on the sides of the windshield are even.
    • Secure the windshield with suitable adhesive tape.
  10. CAUTION: Make sure that no excess sealant residue is evident.

    • If water is used as a means for the leak check, then allow sealant to dry before testing.
    • Spray water around the windshield glass, mark any area that leaks. Dry the windshield glass and sealant before applying additional sealant.
  11. NOTE:
    • Repeat this step for the other side.
    • If the A pillar trim clips are damaged, install new clips.

    Install the A pillar trim panel.

  12. NOTE:
    • If equipped.
    • The procedure must be completed on both sides.

    • Remove the adhesive tape.
    • Connect the 2 electrical connectors.

    • If equipped.

    • Remove the adhesive tape.
    • Connect the 2 electrical connectors.
  14. NOTE: This step is only applicable to vehicles manufactured between and including 16 and 20 model years.

    Install the 2 components.

    • Install the control unit.
    • Connect the electrical connector.

    • Install the component.
    • Connect the 3 electrical connectors.

    • Connect the electrical connector.
    • Install the cover.
  18. Install the rain sensor.

    Refer to: RAIN SENSOR

  19. NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.

    Install both A-pillar trim.

  20. Install the cowl panel.

    Refer to: COWL PANEL

  21. NOTE: Vehicles to the end of 17MY.

    The Image Processing Module 'A' (IPMA) must be calibrated when a windshield is replaced using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment.

    General Equipment: Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment 

  22. NOTE:
    • Vehicles from introduction of 18MY.
    • The drive cycle must not be completed in dark or foggy conditions. The vehicle must not be loaded. Use straight roads wherever possible. Do not travel closely to the vehicle in front.
    • The 'IPMA  must be calibrated when a windshield is replaced the using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment.
    • Select 'IPMA  '
    • Select 'ECU Functions'
    • Select 'IPMA  Set-up application - Camera Calibration'
    • Follow all on-screen instructions to complete this task.
