A directional type microphone is fitted to the driver side of the front overhead console. This makes sure that the microphone is directed towards the driver.

Depending on vehicle specification, the microphone has a hardwired connection to the following:

The Audio Head Unit (AHU) on vehicles with InControl Touch audio system.
The Infotainment Master Controller (IMC) on vehicles with InControl Touch Pro audio system.

The microphone is also used by the voice control system for a range of supported functions. For additional information, Refer to: VOICE CONTROL (G2196500)

The AHU or the IMC has an integrated noise suppression and echo cancellation system for hands-free telephone use.

When the vehicle is equipped with telematics system, the microphone is connected directly to the Telematics Control Module (TCU). The TCU use this connection during an Emergency call (eCall) or Breakdown call (bCall), enabling the driver to verbally communicate with the telematics service provider.

When the microphone must be used by the infotainment system, the TCU processes the signals received from the microphone and passes it to the AHU or the IMC via hardwired connection. For additional information, refer to: TELEMATICS
