The Infotainment Master Controller (IMC) cooling fan is located in the luggage compartment, adjacent to the IMC.
The IMC cooling fan is located in ducting. The ducting extracts air from the vehicle interior via a vent aperture in the left side of the parcel shelf. The air is drawn by the fan and blown through vents in the IMC via a cooling diffuser.
Temperature control within the IMC is necessary to make sure optimum performance. The IMC temperatures are monitored constantly and controlled by software within the IMC. The temperature assessment software is integrated into the IMC. At an ambient temperature of 55°C (131°F) the external IMC cooling fan is energized. When the temperature falls to 45°C (113°F) or below, the fan is switched off.
At every 20th ignition cycle, the cooling fan operates for 180 seconds to enable a maintenance check. The ambient temperature must be above 3°C (37°F) for the maintenance check to function. An IMC cooling fan test application is available in the approved diagnostic equipment.
If the ambient air temperature is below -20°C (-4°F) a low temperature condition will be initiated with restricted functionality. Access to the Solid State Drive (SSD) is also prevented.
The following functions will be disabled:
- Media library
- Voice control
- Navigation
- Language settings.
During the low temperature condition a message 'System is warming up' will be displayed in the Touch Screen (TS) if the navigation soft key is operated.
If the ambient air temperature is below -40°C (-40°F) the IMC will not start. The minimum fan on and off time is 180 seconds.
When the ambient temperature increases to more than -20°C (-4°F) the IMC will initiate the SSD without a full reboot of the system.
At high ambient temperatures of more than 70°C (158°F) a message will be displayed 'System shutting down in 2 minutes' in the TS. If this message appears it could indicate a fault with the IMC or blockage of the ducting.
