Infotainment Master Controller
Infotainment Master Controller Location
The Infotainment Master Controller (IMC) is located behind the left trim panel in the luggage compartment.
The IMC is available in different options depending on the market and vehicle specifications.
The IMC is equipped with a high speed Intel® Quad Core 1.9 GHz Atom™ processor with a 4 Gigabyte (GB) Random Access Memory (RAM).
The IMC has the following integrated features:
- Amplitude Modulation/Frequency Modulation (AM/FM) diversity.
- Digital radio (Rest of the World (ROW)).
- Satellite Digital Audio Radio Service (SDARS)/HD Radio™ (North American Specification (NAS) only).
- Bluetooth® mobile phone and audio streaming.
- InControl system Apps.
- Voice recognition.
- WiFi receiver.
- Navigation information.
- Universal Serial Bus (USB) 3.0 input ports.
- A High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)/Mobile High Definition Link (MHL) input port.
When the vehicle systems become active, the IMC is woken up by the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus activity. The IMC then turns on the Touchscreen (TS).
The IMC incorporates an AM/FM tuner. The following market dependent systems are available:
- ROW (AM/FM/Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) 3)
- NAS (AM/FM/HD Radio™/SDARS).
A feature of radio reception is the ability of the system to automatically switch from DAB to FM (ROW markets) and FM to HD Radio™ (NAS markets). This provides a consistent signal when driving between regions.
The IMC radio tuner provides storage of 50 preset stations for the FM and AM frequencies.
The radio tuner also incorporates the following radio functions:
- AM auto store
- FM station list
- Presets - 50 per frequency
- Traffic Message Channel (TMS) - Europe only
- Radio data system functions:
- Station name
- Radio text
- Program type
- Traffic Announcements (TA) (not NAS)
- Alternative Frequency switching (not NAS)
- Regional to lock to regional/local broadcast (not NAS)
- Seek station
- Tune up/down.
All radio antennas are routed into the IMC via antenna amplifiers. The IMC supplies a power output to the AM/FM antenna amplifier.
The IMC receives a power supply via a fuse in the Engine Junction Box (EJB). This goes to the Quiescent Current Control Module (QCCM) relay and fuse in the Rear Junction Box (RJB).
The IMC is subject to the power management of the QCCM relay which is integrated into the EJB. Power management is controlled by the Body Control Module/Gateway Module (BCM/GWM).
For additional information, Refer to: QUIESCENT DRAIN
The Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment enables software updates to be downloaded. If the IMC is replaced it must be configured as a new module using the JLR approved diagnostic equipment.

Temperature control within the Infotainment Master Controller (IMC) is necessary to make sure of the optimum performance. The IMC internal temperatures are monitored constantly and controlled by software within the IMC. The temperature assessment software is integrated into the IMC.
Temperature is controlled using 2 integral electric fans.
At low internal temperatures of below -20°C (-4°F), a low temperature condition will be initiated with restricted functionality. The following functions will be disabled:
- Media library
- Voice control
- Navigation
- Language settings.
During the low temperature condition a message 'System is warming up' will be displayed in the Touchscreen (TS) if the navigation soft key is operated. When the ambient temperature increases to more than -20°C (-4°F) the IMC will initiate without a full re-boot of the system.
At high ambient temperatures of more than 70°C (158°F) a message will be displayed 'System shutting down in 2 minutes' in the TS. If this message appears it could indicate that something is blocking the vent in the IMC casing or a failure of 1 or both cooling fans.
An external fan and ducting draws the heat away from the IMC to assist in the temperature control.
