Infotainment Master Controller
Infotainment Master Controller Location
The Infotainment Master Controller (IMC) is behind the left trim panel in the luggage compartment.
The IMC is available in different options depending on the market and vehicle specifications.
The IMC has a high speed Intel® Quad Core 1.9 GHz Atom™ processor with a 4 Gigabyte (GB) Random Access Memory (RAM).
The IMC has the following integrated features:
- Amplitude Modulation (AM)/Frequency Modulation (FM) tuners.
- Digital radio (Rest of the World (ROW)).
- Satellite Digital Audio Radio Service (SDARS)/HD Radio™ (North American Specification (NAS) only).
- Bluetooth® mobile phone and audio streaming.
- InControl system Apps.
- Voice recognition.
- WiFi receiver.
- Navigation information.
- Universal Serial Bus (USB) 3.0 input ports.
- A High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)/Mobile High Definition Link (MHL) input port.
- Auto switching from digital radio to FM when signal degrades - ROW markets except NAS.
- Auto switching from HD Radio™ to FM when signal degrades - NAS markets only.
- Media library - Enhanced support for USB flash drive.
- WiFi and system Apps.
- Integrated voice interaction (17 languages, 3 of which support natural input: United Kingdom (UK)/United States (US) English, Chinese (Mandarin)).
When the vehicle systems become active, Controller Area Network (CAN) bus activity wakes the IMC. The IMC then turns on the Touchscreen (TS).
The IMC incorporates an AM/FM tuner. The following market dependent systems are available:
- ROW (AM/FM/digital radio)
- NAS (AM/FM/HD Radio™/SDARS).
A feature of radio reception is the ability of the system to automatically switch from digital radio to FM (ROW markets) and FM to HD Radio™ (NAS markets). This provides a consistent signal when driving between regions.
The IMC radio tuner provides storage of 50 preset stations for the FM and AM frequencies.
The radio tuner also incorporates the following radio functions:
- AM auto store
- FM station list
- Presets - 50 per frequency
- Traffic Message Channel (TMC) - Europe only
- Radio data system functions:
- Station name
- Radio text
- Program type
- Alternative frequency switching (not NAS)
- Regional to lock to regional/local broadcast (not NAS)
- Seek station
- Tune up/down.
All radio antennas are routed into the IMC via antenna amplifiers. The IMC supplies power to the AM/FM antenna amplifier.
The IMC receives a fused power supply from the Quiescent Current Control Module (QCCM).
The IMC is subject to the power management of the QCCM. The Body Control Module/Gateway Module (BCM/GWM) controls the power management of the QCCM.
The Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment enables software updates to be downloaded. If the IMC is replaced, it must be configured as a new module using JLR approved diagnostic equipment.

Temperature control within the Infotainment Master Controller (IMC) is necessary to make sure of the optimum performance. The IMC monitors and controls internal temperatures of the IMC. The temperature control software is in the IMC.
There are 2 internal electric cooling fans in the IMC to control the temperature.
At low internal temperatures of below -20°C (-4°F), a low temperature condition restricts functionality. The following functions will be disabled:
- Media library
- Voice control
- Navigation
- Language settings.
During the low temperature condition a message 'System is warming up' will be displayed on the Touchscreen (TS) if a soft key is selected. When the ambient temperature increases to more than -20°C (-4°F) the IMC starts without a full re-boot of the system.
At high internal temperatures of more than 70°C (158°F) a message will be displayed 'System shutting down in 2 minutes' on the TS. If this message appears it is an indication that something is blocking the vent in the IMC casing or a failure of 1 or both electric cooling fans.
An external fan and ducting draws the warm air from the IMC and into the luggage compartment.
