Anti-Lock Control - Stability Assist - Project 8: Overview
The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system features a modulator. This modulator is an integrated 4-channel Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) and an ABS control module. The HCU is installed in the brake hydraulic circuit between the brake master cylinder and the 4 brake calipers.
The ABS control module is connected to the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) chassis systems bus and Flexray. The ABS control module actively interacts with control modules for other vehicle systems and their associated sensors to receive and transmit current vehicle operating information.
When required, the ABS control module actively intervenes and operates the HCU during braking or vehicle maneuvers to correct the vehicle attitude, stability, traction or speed. During incidents of vehicle correction, the ABS control module may also request the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to control engine power. This request is needed to further stabilize and correct the vehicle.
To give full system functionality, the ABS and DSC system has the following components:
- ABS control module with integrated HCU
- DSC switch
- wheel speed sensors
- Yaw rate and lateral acceleration sensor
- Brake pedal switch
- Instrument Cluster (IC) warning indicators.
The following brake functions help the vehicle and the driver:
- ABS
- DSC including TracDSC
- Corner Brake Control (CBC)
- Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD)
- Electronic Traction Control (ETC)
- Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)
- Engine Drag-torque Control (EDC)
- Understeer control
- Electronic brake prefill
- Torque Vectoring by Braking (TVB)
- JaguarDrive Control (JDC)
- Adaptive surface response.
All of the brake functions listed above are automatically active when the ignition is in power mode and the engine is running. The DSC system can be selected to off using the DSC switch.
