UNDERSTEER Control

The understeer control monitors the vehicle for understeer. To do this, different signals have to be compared. These signals are the signal of the yaw rate and lateral acceleration, which are compared with signals from the steering angle and wheel speed sensors.
When the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) control module detects the onset of understeer, it signals the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM is then obligated to decrease the engine torque. If required, the ABS control module applies brake pressure to the inside rear wheel to correct the understeer. If the vehicle continues to understeer, understeer control is activated. In that case the ABS system uses multiple brakes (maximum of 3 brakes) to rapidly reduce the vehicle speed.
