Cylinder Compression Test - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol (G2159149): Check

NOTE:
  1. This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  2. This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. Remove the spark plugs.

    Refer to: SPARK PLUGS

    Disconnect the electrical connector.

  3. Crank the engine for approximately 5 seconds to remove any remaining fuel in the cylinders.
  4. NOTE: Dry cylinder compression test.

    Install the compression test gauge.

    General Equipment  : Compression tester (petrol/diesel) 

  5. NOTE:
    1. This step requires the aid of another technician.
    2. Print graphic number E199482 in Step  11 . Use this graphic to record each cylinder compression figure.
    3. The startup battery must be in good condition and fully charged before following this procedure.

    Crank the engine for 10 seconds and record the figure displayed on the compression test gauge.

    Make sure the pressure is released from the compression test gauge after each cylinder recording.

    Repeat the process for all the cylinders.

    Remove the compression test gauge.

  7. NOTE: Wet cylinder compression test.

    Using a suitable syringe add 10 ml of clean engine oil into the cylinder.

    Install the compression test gauge.

  9. NOTE:
    1. This step requires the aid of another technician.
    2. Print graphic number E199482 in Step  11 . Use this graphic to record each cylinder compression figure.
    3. The startup battery must be in good condition and fully charged before following this procedure.

    Crank the engine for 10 seconds and record the figure displayed on the compression test gauge. Make sure the pressure is released from the compression test gauge after each cylinder recording. Repeat the process for all the cylinders.

  10. After each wet cylinder compression test remove the compression test gauge and crank engine for approximately 10 seconds to remove any engine oil from the cylinder.
  11. The minimum cylinder compression reading recorded must be within 10% of the maximum cylinder compression reading recorded. If the difference across the cylinders is higher than 10% please contact retailer technical support for further assistance.
  12. NOTE:
    1. A = dry cylinder compression test.
    2. B = wet cylinder compression test.

    Use this illustration to record each cylinder compression figure.

  13. Connect the electrical connector for the fuel injector wiring harness.
  14. Install the spark plugs.

    Refer to: SPARK PLUGS

  15. Using Jaguar approved diagnostic equipment, read and clear any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
