Instructions For VCT Faults Guided Diagnostic Routines

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Jaguar XE and 2019 Jaguar XE. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
  1. This procedure requires a minimum of Pathfinder 274 installed or later.
  2. All ignition ON/OFF instructions must be followed. Failure to complete these instructions may cause damage to the vehicle control modules.
NOTE:
  1. Repair procedures are under constant review, and therefore times are subject to change. Refer to the repair information to obtain the latest repair time.
  2. The JLR claims submission system requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.
  3. Normal Warranty procedures apply.
  4. Do not clear the PCM DTC  s before completing this guided diagnostic routine. The following steps will test the function of the intake and exhaust camshaft VCT  solenoids.
  5. The Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment will read the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for the vehicle and automatically take the vehicle out of 'Transportation Mode' if required.

Complete the following steps:

  1. Connect the JLR approved battery support unit.
  2. Connect the JLR approved diagnostic equipment to the vehicle and begin a new session.
  3. Follow the JLR approved diagnostic equipment prompts:
    1. Select 'Guided Diagnostics'
    2. Select 'Warnings - Lamps - Engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL  )'
    3. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete the task
    4. If the guided diagnostic routine did not  identify a fault with either of the VCT  solenoids, complete steps 6 to 8 (below)  and continue to diagnose the customer concern see ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS
    5. If the guided diagnostic routine did  identify a fault with either of the VCT  solenoids, continue to step 4 (below) 
    NOTE: For this repair, the VCT  solenoids must be renewed as a pair. If a single VCT  solenoid is diagnosed as failed in the future, only renew the failed component.
  4. Renew both VCT  solenoids see VARIABLE CAMSHAFT TIMING SOLENOID (G2133237)
  5. Select 'ECU Diagnostics':
    1. Select 'All DTC  s'
    2. Select 'Clear all DTC  s'
    3. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete this task
  6. If required, reset the vehicle to 'Transportation Mode'
  7. When all of the tasks are complete, exit the session
  8. Disconnect the JLR approved diagnostic equipment and the JLR approved battery support unit
