Pinpoint Test E: Active Engine Mount Test

NOTE: If the active engine mount system is found to have failed (see checks below), there is a risk that the exhaust rear silencer mass dampers may also have sustained damage. The rear silencer has two mass dampers installed; one forward of the rear silencer secured to a bracket on the inlet pipe the other secured to a bracket attached to the rear silencer assembly. See exhaust rear silencer mass damper checks In Pinpoint Test F below.
  1. E1: ACTIVE ENGINE MOUNT VACUUM LINES VISUAL CHECKS 
    1. Inspect all the vacuum lines for correct connection and for any damage

    Are all the vacuum lines correctly connected and free from damage?

    Yes 

    GO to  E2.

    No 

    Reconnect or replace damaged vacuum lines as required and retest

  2. E2: ACTIVE ENGINE MOUNT VACUUM LINES VACUUM CHECKS 
    1. Disconnect the vacuum lines from the solenoid
    2. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved vacuum testing equipment, connect to the vacuum system and check it can hold a vacuum

    Did the vacuum system hold a constant vacuum when tested?

    Yes 

    GO to  E3.

    No 

    Systematically check each vacuum line until the fault is identified. Repair or replace the faulty line as necessary and retest

  3. E3: CHECK ACTIVE ENGINE MOUNT SWITCH POSITION 
    1. Inspect the left and right active engine mount switch positions as shown in the image

    Is the active engine mount switch clearly visible as shown in the image?

    Yes 

    The active engine mount may still be serviceable even if the switch is clearly visible. GO to  E4. and perform a vacuum test of the at fault engine mount. Only install a new engine mount if the vacuum test fails

    No 

    GO to  E4.

  4. E4: ACTIVE ENGINE MOUNT VACUUM CHECKS 
    1. Disconnect the vacuum lines directly from the left and right active engine mounts

    2. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved vacuum testing equipment, connect to each active engine mount and check it is holding vacuum. The engine mount should switch before 0.4 bar of vacuum is pulled and then be able to hold the vacuum for 30 seconds

    Did the engine mount hold the vacuum for 30 seconds?

    Yes 

    GO to  E5.

    No 

    The active engine mount is faulty, replace only the faulty active engine mount and retest

  5. E5: ACTIVE ENGINE MOUNT SOLENOID ELECTRICAL CHECKS 
    1. Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the active engine mount solenoid circuit for short circuit to ground, open circuit, high resistance. Repair circuit as required and retest. Check vacuum is present at the end of the lines

    Did the check and repair of the active engine mount solenoid circuit resolve the issue?

    Yes 

    No further action is required

    No 

    Check and install a new active engine mount solenoid as required and retest. If the fault persists, reconfirm the customer symptoms
