Timing Cover (G2248113): Installation

  1. CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

    • Apply RTV sealant (Loctite 5901G) in a 2-3mm diameter to the areas shown above.

    Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .

    • Make sure the front cover retaining bolts are tightened within 7 minutes.
  2. CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

    Install a new front cover using the special tool.

    Special Tool(s): 303-1433 

  3. NOTE: Special tools shown below removed for clarity.

    Install the 4 bolts as illustrated finger tight only at this stage.

    Fully tighten the 4 bolts in the sequence as illustrated.

    Torque: 12Nm 

  5. NOTE: Special tools shown below removed for clarity.

    • Install and tighten the 8 bolts.

      Torque: 12Nm 

    • Remove the special tool from the front cover.

    Special Tool(s): 303-1433 

  6. NOTE: Lubricate the seal with clean engine oil.

    • Install the brake vacuum pump.
    • Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

    Torque: 12Nm

    Connect the brake vacuum pipe.

  8. Install the crankshaft pulley.

    Refer to: CRANKSHAFT PULLEY .

  9. CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

    Using a suitable plastic scraper remove the old sealant.

    • Apply RTV sealant (Loctite 5901G) in a 2-3mm diameter to the areas shown above.

    Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .

    • Make sure the front cover retaining bolts are tightened within 7 minutes.

    • Install the upper timing cover.
    • Install and tighten the 5 bolts finger tight only at this stage.

    Fully tighten the 5 bolts in the indicated sequence.

    Torque: 12Nm

    • Install the Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) actuators.
    • Install and tighten the 4 bolts.

    Torque: 12Nm 

  14. Install the right valve cover.

    Refer to: RIGHT VALVE COVER .

    • Install the idler pulley.
    • Install and tighten the bolt.

      Torque: 48Nm

    Install the idler pulley cover.

  17. CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

    Fully tighten the 5 bolts in the indicated sequence.

    Torque: 12Nm

    • Install and tighten the bolt.

    Torque: 48Nm

    Install the idler pulley cover.

  24. Install the left valve cover.

    Refer to: LEFT VALVE COVER .

    • Install the accessory drive belt tensioner.
    • Install and tighten the bolt.

    Torque: 48Nm 

  26. Install the thermostat housing.

    Refer to: THERMOSTAT HOUSING .

  27. Install the accessory drive belt.

    Refer to: ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT .

  28. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .

  29. Fill the engine with oil.

    Refer to: ENGINE OIL VACUUM DRAINING AND FILLING .
