Right Camshaft (G2244069): Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Jaguar XE. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CAUTION: Prior to installing the camshafts, position the crankshaft 45 degrees ATDC cylinder 1A to prevent valve/piston collision.
NOTE: Lubricate the camshafts and the camshaft bearing caps with clean engine oil prior to installation.

    • Fully tighten the 20 camshaft bearing caps following the illustrated sequence.

      Torque  : 12Nm

    • The valve clearances must be checked in the next step.
  3. CAUTION: Only rotate the crankshaft clockwise.

Rotate the crankshaft until the camshaft lobe on the valve being checked is 180 degrees from the maximum opening position.

  4. NOTE: If the valve clearance is incorrect, continue to the next step. If the valve clearance is correct, continue to step  8.

Using a suitable feeler gauge, check the gap between the tappet and the camshaft lobe and check against the specifications table.

    Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .

  5. CAUTION: Do not use a magnet to remove the tappet.
    • Remove the tappet and measure the thickness.
    • Use the following formula to calculate the required tappet thickness. Original thickness + measured clearance - desired clearance = required tappet thickness.
  6. NOTE: If a new tappet is installed then go back to step  1 of the install procedure.

Install a new tappet if required.

  7. Using a suitable feeler gauge, check the gap between the tappet and the camshaft lobe and check against the specifications table.

    Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .

  8. Install the timing drive components.

Refer to: TIMING DRIVE COMPONENTS .

  9. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
