Left Cylinder Head (G2244073): Installation

Check the cylinder head face for distortion, across the center and from corner to corner.

Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .

Refer to: CYLINDER HEAD DISTORTION .
CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

- Carefully install the new cylinder head gasket over the cylinder head dowels.
  Renew Part: Cylinder head gasket Quantity: 1 .
- With the assistance of another technician, install the cylinder head into the correct position.

- Install 10 new cylinder head bolts.
  Renew Part: Cylinder head bolts Quantity: 10 .
- Tighten the bolts using the special tool in the sequence illustrated.
  Install the Special Tool(s) : JLR-303-1653, 303-1492

Tighten the bolts using the special tool in the sequence illustrated.

Special Tool(s) : 303-1492

Torque : 35Nm

Using the special tool loosen the bolts in the sequence illustrated.

Tighten the bolts using the special tool in the sequence illustrated.

Torque : 35Nm

Tighten the bolts using the special tool in the sequence illustrated.

Torque : 90°
NOTE: Tighten the bolts in the indicated sequence.

Tighten the bolts using the special tool in the sequence illustrated.

Special Tool(s) : 303-1492

Torque : 120°
Remove the special tools.
Remove the Special Tool(s) : JLR-303-1653, 303-1492

Install and tighten the outer cylinder head bolt.

Torque : 25Nm
NOTE: Tighten the bolts in the indicated sequence.

Install and tighten the 2 outer cylinder head bolts in the sequence illustrated.

Torque : 12Nm
CAUTION:
- If a new cylinder head has been installed then new tappets must be installed.
- If the cylinder head is being removed without a new component being installed, the tappets must be installed in their original positions.

Lubricate the valve tappets with clean engine oil.

- Install the oil vacuum recovery pipe.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
  Torque : 12Nm

- Move the fuel pipe into the correct position.
- Install and tighten the bolt.
  Torque : 10Nm

- Move the Air Conditioning (A/C)) pipe into the correct position.
- Install and tighten the bolt.
  Torque : 12Nm

- Install 2 new coolant cross over pipe seals.
  Renew Part: Water outlet connection O-ring seals Quantity: 2 .
- Install the coolant cross over pipe.
- Install and tighten the 4 bolts.
  Torque : 10Nm

Connect the coolant cross over pipe assembly electrical connector.

- Connect the coolant hose and secure in the correct position with the 2 clips.
- Install the clamp.

Connect the coolant hose.

- Install the front knock sensor.
- Install and tighten the bolt.
  Torque : 20Nm
- Connect the electrical connector.

- Install the rear knock sensor.
- Install and tighten the bolt.
  Torque : 20Nm
- Connect the electrical connector.

- Move the wiring harness into the correct position.
- Install the 2 clips.
Install the left camshaft.
Refer to: LEFT CAMSHAFT .
Install the left exhaust manifold.
Refer to: LEFT EXHAUST MANIFOLD .
Connect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
