Parking Brake - Project 8 (G2231195): Overview
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Jaguar XE and 2019 Jaguar XE. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The Electric Park Brake (EPB) is an electrically actuated system that operates the calipers on the rear brakes. The system consists of:
- EPB switch
- EPB actuators
- Brake vacuum sensor
- warning indicators in the Instrument Cluster (IC)
- Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) control module.
The EPB is controlled by the ABS control module, which uses the EPB actuators to apply and release the rear disc brakes. Operation of the EPB is initiated by the EPB switch and software within the ABS control module. The EPB has the following operating modes:
- Static apply/release
- Drive-away release
- Automatic transmission apply/release
- Ignition off apply
- High temperature reclamp
- Driver exit warning
- Roll away reclamp
- Dynamic apply.
Signals from other vehicle systems for operation of the EPB are transmitted to the ABS control module on 3 different kinds of bus systems. These bus systems are the Flexray, the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) chassis systems bus and the HS CAN powertrain systems bus.
