Right Fuel Rail (G2244113): Removal

CAUTION:

Extreme cleanliness must be exercised when handling these components. Make sure that all tools and the surrounding area is clean before commencing work.
Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all components must be sealed.

NOTE:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

Always follow the fuel system health and safety precautions when doing any repairs to the fuel system.

Release the pressure in the fuel system.
Refer to: FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE
Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
Partially drain the cooling system.
Refer to: COOLING SYSTEM PARTIAL DRAINING AND VACUUM FILLING
Clean the fuel injectors, High Pressure (HP) fuel supply line and surrounding areas.
Refer to: FUEL INJECTION COMPONENT CLEANING
NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

- Disconnect the 2 left side coolant pipes.
- Release the clip.

Remove the oil filler cap and the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.

Release the vacuum pipe.
NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

Disconnect the 2 right side coolant pipes.

Remove the NVH material.
Remove the air filter outlet pipe T-connector.

- Release the clip.
- Disconnect the breather pipe.

- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Release the 2 fuel line unions.
- Remove the fuel line.

Release the wiring harness clip.
NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

- Release the fuel line union.
- Remove the nut.
Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

Remove the engine undershield.

Release the 2 clips and disconnect the 2 electrical connectors from the 2 HP fuel pumps.

Remove the 2 bolts and the heatshield.

Release the accessory drive belt from the generator pulley and idler pulley.

Remove the 3 bolts and the idler pulley.
WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Release the 2 fuel line unions.
- Remove the fuel line assembly.

- Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel rail pressure sensor.
- Release the clip.

Disconnect the 8 electrical connectors and position the wiring harness to one side.

- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the 4 ignition coils.
NOTE: Right side shown, left side is similar.

Using the special tool remove the 4 spark plugs.

Special Tool(s): 303-1450
CAUTION: Make a note of the fuel injector clamp alignment to the fuel rail prior to removal.

- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the fuel rail.
CAUTION:
- Make sure that the special tool is located correctly to the fuel injector prior to removing the fuel injector.
- Make sure that the special tool is held square to the fuel injector during removal.
- Make sure that all open ports are covered to prevent any foreign material ingress.

Using the special tool remove the 4 fuel injectors.

Remove and discard the 4 fuel injector clamps.
CAUTION:
- Do not use a knife to remove the Teflon™ seal as damage could occur to the fuel injector.
- Do not cut the Teflon™ seal too deep as damage could occur to the fuel injector.
- Pinch the Teflon™ seal to allow the tool to cut the Teflon™ seal without damaging the fuel injector.

Remove and discard the 4 fuel injector seals.
CAUTION: Do not use any sharp tools to remove the O-ring seal as damage could occur to the fuel injector.
