Fuel Injectors (G2244109): Removal

CAUTION:
  • Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.
  • Protect the surrounding paintwork to avoid damage.
  • Make sure that the tools and equipment are clean, free of foreign material and lubricant.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. Always follow the fuel system health and safety precautions when doing any repairs to the fuel system.

    Refer to: PETROL AND PETROL-ETHANOL FUEL SYSTEMS HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

  2. Release the pressure in the fuel system.

    Refer to: FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE

  3. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT

  4. Drain the coolant.

    Refer to: COOLING SYSTEM PARTIAL DRAINING AND VACUUM FILLING

  5. CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

    • Disconnect the 2 right side coolant pipes.
    • Release the clip.

    • Remove the oil filler cap.
    • Remove the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.
    • Install the engine oil filler cap.

    Disconnect the vacuum pipe connector.

  8. CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

    Disconnect the 2 left side coolant pipes.

    Remove the NVH material.

  10. Remove the air filter outlet pipe T-connector.

    Refer to: AIR FILTER OUTLET PIPE T-CONNECTOR

    Disconnect the breather pipe.

  12. CAUTION:
    • Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.
    • Make sure that all openings are sealed. Use new blanking caps.

    • Remove the 4 bolts.
    • Remove the 2 fuel line unions.
    • Remove and discard the fuel line.

    Release the wiring harness clip.

  14. CAUTION:
    • Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.
    • Make sure that all openings are sealed. Use new blanking caps.

    • Disconnect the fuel line union.
    • Remove the nut.
  15. WARNING: Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.

    Raise and support the vehicle.

  16. Remove the engine undershield.

    Refer to: ENGINE UNDERSHIELD - PROJECT 8

    • Carefully release the 2 clips.
    • Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.

    • Remove the 2 bolts and the heatshield.

    Release the accessory drive belt.

    • Remove the 3 bolts.
    • Remove the idler pulley assembly.
  21. Remove the generator.

    Refer to: GENERATOR

  22. CAUTION:
    • Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.
    • Make sure that all openings are sealed. Use new blanking caps.

    • Release the fuel line unions.
    • Remove the 2 bolts.
    • Remove and discard the fuel line assembly.
  23. Lower the vehicle.

    Disconnect the electrical connector.

    • Disconnect the 4 fuel injector electrical connectors.
    • Disconnect the 4 ignition coil electrical connector.
    • Position the wiring harness to one side.
    • Repeat process to the other side.

    Remove both side ignition coils.

  27. CAUTION:
    • Make a note of the fuel injector clamp alignment to the fuel rail prior to removal.
    • Make sure that the fuel injectors and the belonging fuel injector clamps are marked up prior to removal, if existing fuel injectors are to be re-used each fuel injector has to be installed with the original clamp to its original location.

    Remove both side fuel rails.

  28. CAUTION:
    • Make sure that the special tool is located correctly to the fuel injector prior to removing the fuel injector.
    • Make sure that the special tool is held square to the fuel injector during removal.
    • Make sure that all open ports are covered to prevent any foreign material ingress.

    Using the special tool, remove the 8 fuel injectors.

    Special Tool(s): 310-197 

  29. CAUTION: If the fuel injector is being removed without a new component being installed, the fuel injector clamp must remain with the fuel injector it is removed with.

    Remove and discard the 8 fuel injector retaining clamps.

  30. CAUTION:
    • Do not use a knife to remove the Teflon™ seal as damage could occur to the fuel injector.
    • Do not cut the Teflon™ seal too deep as damage could occur to the fuel injector.
    • Pinch the Teflon™ seal to allow the tool to cut the Teflon™ seal without damaging the fuel injector.

    Remove and discard the 8 Teflon™ seals.

  31. CAUTION: Do not use any sharp tools to remove the O-ring seal as damage could occur to the fuel injector.
