Pinpoint Test I: Hood Will Not Latch
- I1: HOOD BUMP STOP/OBSTRUCTION INSPECTION
- Inspect the hood bump stops for correct position and also inspect for any debris obstructing the hood closure.
Are the hood bump stops positioned incorrectly? Can obstructions be found?
Yes
If the hood bump stops are positioned incorrectly or obstructions are stopping the hood from closing, reposition the bump stops and remove the obstructions and retest.
No
If the hood bump stops are positioned correctly and no obstructions can be found GO to I2.
- I2: HOOD LATCH AND STRIKER INSPECTION
- Inspect the hood latch striker and catch are correctly aligned.
Are the hood latch striker and catch correctly aligned?
Yes
If the hood latch and striker are correctly aligned GO to I3.
No
If the hood latch striker and clasp are not correctly aligned, realign and retest.
- I3: HOOD LATCH INSPECTION
- With the hood open manually clasp the latch.
Does the latch close correctly?
Yes
If the latch closes correctly GO to I4.
No
If the latch does not close correctly GO to I5.
- I4: HOOD HINGE INSPECTION
- Inspect the hood hinges for obstructions.
Are the hood hinges obstructed?
Yes
If an obstruction can be found remove and retest.
No
If an obstruction can be found GO to I5.
- I5: HOOD RELEASE CABLE INSPECTION
- Inspect the hood release cable for free movement
Does the hood release cable obstruct the hood latch operation?
Yes
Inspect the hood release cable and hood release lever for correct operation, replace as necessary
No
If the hood release cable moves freely and does not obstruct the hood latch, inspect the hood latch for correct operation and replace as necessary (See illustrations, latch closed front and upper view, latch open front and upper view).
