Pinpoint Test H: Hood Will Not Unlatch When The Release Lever Is Pulled

  1. H1: HOOD RELEASE LEVER INSPECTION 
    1. Operate the hood release lever through the full lever travel.

    Does the hood open?

    Yes 

    If the hood opens correctly, advise the customer on how to use the system. No further action required.

    No 

    If the hood will not open or the hood release lever does not operate through the full lever travel GO to  H2.

  2. H2: HOOD RELEASE LEVER INSPECTION CONTINUED 
    1. Operate the hood release lever through full travel

    Does the hood release lever travel up to a hard stop?

    Yes 

    If the hood release lever travels fully to a hard stop GO to  H3.

    No 

    If the hood release lever does not travel fully to a hard stop GO to  H4.

  3. H3: HOOD RELEASE LEVER RESISTANCE INSPECTION 
    1. Operate the hood release lever.

    When operating the hood release lever can resistance be felt, as if connected to latches?

    Yes 

    If resistance can be felt GO to  H5.

    No 

    If resistance cannot be felt GO to  H4.

  4. H4: HOOD RELEASE LEVER CABLE INSPECTION 
    1. Remove the A pillar trim.

    Is the hood release cable connected to the hood release lever?

    Yes 

    If the hood release cable is correctly connected to the hood release lever GO to  H5.

    No 

    If the hood release cable is not correctly installed to the hood release lever reinstall the cable and retest.

  5. H5: ENGINE COMPARTMENT INSPECTION 
    1. Gain access to the engine compartment and inspect the hood release cable connections to the hood latches.

    Are the hood release cables connected to the hood latches correctly?

    Yes 

    If the hood release cables are correctly connected to the hood latches GO to  H6.

    No 

    If the hood latch cables are not correctly connected to the hood latches, reconnect the cables and retest.

  6. H6: HOOD LATCH INSPECTION 
    1. Inspect the hood latch mechanism for free movement.

    Do the hood latches move freely?

    Yes 

    If the hood latches move freely GO to  H7.

    No 

    If either of the hood latches do not move freely, replace the hood latch and retest.

  7. H7: RELEASE MECHANISM INSPECTION 
    1. With the hood open latch both latches manually, then slowly pull the release lever to a hard stop.

    Do both hood latches release?

    Yes 

    If both hood latches release correctly, close the hood and retest.

    No 

    If the hood latches do not release correctly, replace the hood latch release cable and retest.
