Pinpoint Test G: "Hood Open" Warning Displayed On The Instrument Cluster

1. Inspect that the hood is closed correctly.

Has the hood been closed correctly?

Yes 

If the hood is closed correctly and the "Hood Open" warning is displayed on the Instrument Cluster GO to  G2.

No 

Close the hood correctly and retest.

1. Open the hood and inspect the hood latch switch connection.

Is the hood latch switch wiring harness correctly connected

Yes 

The hood latch wiring harness is correctly connected GO to  G3.

No 

Connect the wiring harness to the hood latch switch and retest.

1. With the hood open, manually clasp the hood latch.

Does the hood latch operate correctly?

Yes 

If the hood latch operates correctly GO to  G5.

No 

If the hood latch does not operate correctly GO to  G4.

1. With the hood open and the hood latch manually clasped inspect the hood release cable for free movement.

Does the hood release cable move freely?

Yes 

If the hood release cable moves freely inspect the hood latch for free movement, replace as necessary and retest

No 

If the hood release cable cannot move freely, replace as necessary and retest

1. Refer to the vehicle wiring diagrams inspect the wiring harness from the hood latch switch connector to the Body Control Module (BCM).

Has a hood latch switch wiring harness fault been found?

Yes 

Repair the wiring harness as necessary and retest

No 

If no fault can be found with the hood latch switch wiring harness, replace the hood latch as necessary and retest.
