Pinpoint Test D: Door Unlocking Tests - Single Door
- D1: INLINE DIAGNOSTIC UNIT 2, MODULE SOFTWARE AND CONNECTORS TESTS
- If the vehicle has keyless functionality then this could help gain entry, with the vehicle locked and key in your hand, attempt to open door by grasping handle and pulling in one motion.
- If a latch-system fault is suspected, diagnosis of the affected components should be facilitated through the use of an Inline Diagnostic Unit 2 (IDU2). Connect the IDU2 to the vehicle and follow the on-screen diagnostic process to locate the correct fuse. This can then be used to confirm the fault to the latch system without first having to strip down the door interior(s).
- Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, confirm that the latest level Door Module software is installed. Update software as required and reconfigure the door module.
- Confirm global opening is enabled so all doors are unlocked together during testing. Make sure that this feature is not the cause of the concern.
- Confirm that the interior and exterior handles are operating smoothly and returning to their home position.
Is a latch-system fault still evident when unlocking with the smart key?
Yes
GO to D2.
No
No further action required
- D2: REAR DOOR CHILD LOCK CHECKS
- Confirm location of latch fault (front/rear door)
Is the fault with the rear door(s)?
Yes
Cycle the child lock twice using the interior switch to reset before moving onto intrusive testing (if the child lock was operated when the interior handle was pulled, then the latch will remain locked - this procedure will reset the latch). Check again to see if the fault is still evident. If no fault is detected, no further action is required. Inform the customer to make sure the interior handle is not operated when the child lock switch is enabled/disabled. If the fault is still evident, then GO to D3.
No
GO to D3.
- D3: DOOR LOCKING TEST 1
- Remove the interior door trim as necessary. REFER to:
- Check the door latch electrical connector for correct installation.
Is the door latch electrical connector installed correctly?
Yes
GO to D4.
No
Install the door latch electrical connector correctly and retest.
- Remove the interior door trim as necessary. REFER to:
- D4: DOOR LOCKING TEST 2
- Disconnect the door latch electrical connector.
- Check the door latch electrical connector terminals for damage and corrosion.
Are the door latch electrical connector terminals bent, damaged or corroded?
Yes
Repair the door latch electrical connector or install a new door latch as necessary. REFER to:
and REAR DOOR LATCH
Check to confirm the repair is complete.
No
GO to D5.
- D5: DOOR LOCKING TEST 3 CAUTION: When circuit testing, a suitable multimeter must be used (with sprung pins to prevent splaying of the terminals to minimize the risk of further failures).NOTE: This step applies when testing the front left or rear left door.
- Connect a voltmeter to terminal 6 and terminal 7 of the door latch wiring harness connector.NOTE: This step applies when testing the front right or rear right door.
- Connect a voltmeter to terminal 3 and terminal 2 of the door latch wiring harness connector.
- Using the smart key, lock and unlock the vehicle and check the measured voltage.
Is the measured voltage greater than 10V for each measurement?
Yes
GO to D6.
No
Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the door latch single locking circuit for short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance and repair harness as required. In addition, check that the circuit resistance is below 1Ω, make sure that all sections of the circuit are tested (the entire circuit from the door vehicle connector to the door module and from the door module to the door latch). If high resistance (above 1Ω) is detected, this may indicate the harness has become trapped or crushed and requires replacement.
- Connect a voltmeter to terminal 6 and terminal 7 of the door latch wiring harness connector.
- D6: DOOR LOCKING TEST 4 (NOT APPLICABLE TO NAS OR JAPAN)
- Using the smart key, lock and unlock the vehicle.CAUTION: When circuit testing, a suitable multimeter must be used (with sprung pins to prevent splaying of the terminals to minimize the risk of further failures).NOTE: This step applies when testing the front left or rear left door.
- Connect a voltmeter to terminal 8 and terminal 7 of the door latch wiring harness connector.NOTE: This step applies when testing the front right or rear right door.
- Connect a voltmeter to terminal 1 and terminal 2 of the door latch wiring harness connector.
- Using the smart key, double lock/unlock the vehicle and check the measured voltage.
Is the measured voltage greater than 10V for each measurement?
Yes
Check that the circuit resistance is below 1Ω, make sure that all sections of the circuit are tested (the entire circuit from the door vehicle connector to the door module and from the door module to the door latch). If high resistance (above 1Ω) is detected, this may indicate the harness has become trapped or crushed and requires replacement Refer to appropriate wiring repair information. If resistance is below 1Ω, then replace the latch and re-assess the concern. REFER to:
FRONT DOOR LATCH (Removal and Installation),
and REAR DOOR LATCH (Removal and Installation).
